Susan Stromberg

Biography

Stromberg is an internationally recognized sculptor who works with a vast range of materials creating striking pieces that are at once poetic, spiritual, and in harmony with Nature. Originally from Saskatchewan, living in Montreal, QC since 1963, Stromberg acquired three university degrees in the field of Arts and Literature, including a Master of Arts, before establishing herself as a leading figure in Canadian sculpture. Her works are part of some of the country’s most prestigious public and private Art Collections, namely the Governor General’s residence (Head of Canada) at Rideau Hall in Ottawa; The McGill Visual Arts Collection; The Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal; Alexis Nihon Office Towers; Concordia University; Cape Breton University; The University of Sherbrooke; The National Bank of Canada; and The MUHC/Lachine Hospital. In addition, the Government of Canada acquired a number of her Bronzes to present as gifts to Foreign Heads of State worldwide, including: former Presidents Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin. Stromberg was awarded the Canadian Commemorative Medal for her Contribution to the Arts of Canada. After being represented by renowned Dominion Gallery for over 20 years, she is currently with Dimension Plus Gallery in Montreal. Stromberg continues to work on public and private commissions.

Artist Statement

I never copy myself or anyone else. In over 40 years, I have made more than 540 sculptures and no two are the same.
Einstein said: “More important than knowledge, use your imagination”. To that, I have added curiosity, invention and sudden flashes of insight that strike in the middle of the night. I have used every conceivable material, including sticks, stones, bones, crystal, glass, bronze, aluminum, and steel. When creating, I enter another level of being. If you stand back and watch me, you will see me constantly in motion, looking and working on all sides, at all times.
